International

Central Church has a rich heritage of going to the ends of the earth to make disciples. From our founding role over thirty years ago in Kenya Methodist University to our most recent adoption of missionaries to Mongolia we have seen God working through us in wonderful ways. Missions at Central is more than putting funds in the offering plate. Over fifty of our members have been personally involved in projects in Kenya through the years and many others have been on short-term trips to other parts of the world.

Still we would like to see God’s passion for the world infect more people. Because of that, we are currently forming area Global Outreach Teams, small groups of people who will meet monthly to pray for and connect with missionaries that the church supports in their particular part of the world (Asia, Africa, Europe, etc.). Since we live in such a diverse world, it is possible to touch the ends of the earth without leaving the Tri-Cities, so these teams will also be involved in reaching out to international people who live locally.

Monthly Spotlight:

The Thiiri Cultural Centre in Meru, Kenya

Thiiri is a unique establishment located in the Mount Kenya hillsides of Meru, in a rural, farming community. The grounds cover six acres with spacious lawns and gardens.
The Thiiri Center offers several classes and workshops in the arts, technology, and early childhood development. The Center also has 14 self-contained rooms and space to host meals, conferences, seminars, weddings, group meetings and community events.
Recently, the Thiiri Center has been awarded an NGO certificate (non-profit status) by the Kenyan government. Under construction is a swimming pool, children's playground, gym and music recording studio.

40 Days of Prayer for Mongolia

How to prepare for the the 40 hours of prayer for Mongolia

1. Of course, the best way to prepare for the 40 hours of prayer is to pray.

Pray that the Lord would give you insight, creativity, diplomacy and peace as you prepare to:

a. Pray alone.

b. Talk or write to others about praying.

c. Talk or write to others about joining you in prayer.

d. Talk or write to others about meeting together for prayer.

2. Put information on your personal Facebook or Blog.  Include the JCS web page reference on your Facebook or Blog (www.jcsintl.org).

3. Talk with your Pastor, Mission committee, Youth leader, Bible study leaders about joining you in this time of prayer.  Perhaps your church or Mission Committee would recruit a committee to promote and coordinate the prayer time.  (See #6)

4. After you have the support from your church or group leadership, put an announcement in your bulletin, newsletter, Church internet site.

 5. Put up the 40-hour prayer flier on bulletin boards.  The flier is on the JCS webpage: (http://www.jcsintl.org/).

 6. Options for group prayer events:

You know what works best in your group.  But here are some ideas:

For big groups like whole churches:

A. Designate and reserve a place (part of the church) where people can come to pray for Mongolia.  Plan for security.

B. Plan a beginning and/or ending gathering.  Perhaps many people can gather at 7pm on Friday, March 5, for an opening time of group prayer.  Project photos, from the JCS webpage, of Mongolia.  Read portions of the prayer information sheets found on the JCS webpage.

C. Create a sign-up sheet where people can volunteer to pray in 30-minutes shifts, 24-hours per day for 40 hours.  People can pray from their homes during their selected time, or they could come to the designated prayer place (6A).

D. Ask your Pastor or Worship leader to incorporate a special prayer for Mongolia in the weekly worship service.

E. During the 40-hours of Prayer for Mongolia, take photos of group events and include them in your newsletter.  Send them to JCS and put them on your Blog or FaceBook.

F. After the 40-hours of Prayer for Mongolia, put comments from participants in your newsletter.  Send these comments to JCS.

Small Groups:

A. Meet as a small group sometime during the 40-hours of Prayer for Mongolia.  Serve some Mongolian food (http://www.mongolfood.info/en/, http://asiarecipe.com/monveg.html).  It is not essential that groups pray continuously for 40 hours.

B. Purchase or check out a Mongolian DVD (“Weeping Camel,” “Cave of the Yellow Dog”) and watch it as a group.  After the DVD, pray for Mongolia, remembering the images you saw in the DVD.

C. Have each small group member read one of the Prayer information sheets downloaded from the JCS webpage (www.jcsintl.org).  Pause after reading each page and pray for this issue.

D. Take pictures of your time together and send them to JCS at JourneyWithUs@JCSIntl.org.

For Individuals:

A. Read the Prayer information sheets on the JCS webpage (www.jcsintl.org) and pray for each of the issues.

B. Consider fasting for some or all of the 40 hours.  Learn about fasting at:  http://www.allaboutprayer.org/christian-fasting-faq.htm.

C.  Consider planning your prayer time with a prayer partner.  Pray together in person, by phone, by email, Facebook or other means.

D.  Send your prayer experiences to JCS at JourneyWithUs(at)JCSIntl.org.

Send your 40 prayer suggestions, ideas and experiences to JCS at JourneyWithUs(at)JCSIntl.org.  Perhaps we can share them with others.

Thank you, Jim Sedore
